Shapour has over thirty years of experience in the
analysis and design of structures. He initially worked in Iran on the
design of steel and concrete building against earthquake. He went to the
United Kingdom in 1984 after working in Iran on a number of different types
of projects in civil and structural engineering. He obtained his Doctorate
from University of Surrey in 1988 and statred
working for Gifford and Partners. His work has included inspection,
assessment and monitoring of bridges, with soil-structure interaction, both
in service and under test loads. He
has led load testing of about 50 deck spans and used the results to improve
the load carrying capacity of the decks.
He has used a core-stress-relief method developed by himself on over
40 concrete structures to measure in situ stresses. He has also been
involved in mainstream design of highway and railway bridges and used his
structural behaviour understanding to improve design methods. Shapour is fully experienced in finite
element analysis, implementing the technique on structures with linear and
non-linear behaviour under static and dynamic loads. He is the author of a number technical reports and has published several
papers on the measurement of in situ stresses in concrete structures and
load testing of bridges.
He developed relationship with Iranian
consultancies, contractors and universities on behalf of Gifford to promote
engineering excellence. In addition he acted as the adviser on the seismic
design of their buildings in Iran.
joined Atkins between June 05 and January 07 as the Head of Structural
Design in their office in Dubai producing innovative solutions for
high-rise developments and complex structural designs. He helped to developed the department, put a management system in
place. The department grew during this period from 25 to 55. Major projects
in this period were, Burj Dubai Lake Hotel, Al
Mas tower, Palm Trump Tower, Palm Gateway, Towers in Dubai Marina, Towers
in Jumeirah Lake.
joined WSP Middle East Ltd which is part of WSP Group in January 2007. His initial roles in the WSP UAE
were to review and help to develop the following:
Project Life Cycle from the structural design point of view
design approach in different offices
the management for future growth of the company
the technical excellence in the company
At the same time he has
been acting as the project director of a number of project.
He was then promoted to Director, Structures - Abu Dhabi to help with the
expanding market in that area.
August to October 2010 I joined Saudi Diyar
Consultants in Jeddah for consultancy work as Head of Engineering
Departments responsible for all the engineering activities internal and
external to the company. I then started work as an advisor to Tat Group in
Iran but working from Dubai which led to becoming Development Manager and
Technical Advisor to Alborz Tat Construction which is a subsidiary of the
Tat Group. From March 2013, I have been helping Kling Consult in their
Dubai office as a Consultant.
